Step-by-Step Differentiation – For the Teachers

Differentiation_PlanningA few years ago, I did a series of inservice workshops for a group of new teachers. We spent a lot of time talking about effective lesson planning, differentiation and using data to guide classroom instruction.

I worked on creating some sort of diagram or process that they could use when they planned lessons to walk through the many different ways that instruction can be differentiated: by the content taught, the assessment used, the activities, the materials, and/or by students’ level of academic readiness, by their interest and by their preferred learning styles.

I’ve played around with the diagram several times over the years, and last night I posted the latest version, my favorite so far.

    I have never seen anything like this, it is amazing! Thank you so much for developing and sharing this template. A few years ago, someone shared a similar flowchart model with me on developing receptive skills in esl and this reminded me so much of it.

    I downloaded this template and it will take me some time to study. I am using this to help me develop some learning contracts for students. Thanks for your work and sharing this!
