In pretty much every classroom I’ve had, I’ve used little signs like these to list the day’s agenda on the side of my white board.
At the top of the agenda is one that says, “Today is…” But instead of writing “Friday, February 1,” I used that space to mention something about each day that made it unique – a student’s birthday, a holiday, an anniversary of some sort. Somedays there were things I could directly tie to our curriculum, like the anniversary of a particular Civil War battle. Others were just for fun, one favorite being “Talk Like a Pirate Day” (which happens in September).
The idea is that every day is worth celebrating, for some reason for another. Here are five days to celebrate in February and a printable calendar for the month.
February 5 – National Weatherman’s Day
February 12 – Fat Tuesday and Pancake Day (not a coincidence these are the same day…)
February 15 – National Gum Drop Day
February 17 – Random Acts of Kindness Day (a Sunday this year, but something that could be highlighted on a school day as well.
February 27 – International Polar Bear Day
Have a great month!
